Do you know someone in a wheelchair? Maybe someone within your family, within your circle of friends, someone who lives on your street or have you just seen someone in the supermarket trying hard to get the toothpaste off the shelf?
We cannot change their disability but we can make things easier. Assistance Dogs Australia is a non-profit organisation which trains and maintains dogs in community settings to assist people with their disabilities, to give them more confidence and to help them achieve a greater level of independence. Within the last year we placed over 97 dogs in Australia. The recipients do not only get a fully trained dog but a partner and a friend for life.
Do you want to help us to train more dogs to help even more people? In October 2009 we need your support!
Find your own way of supporting our puppies to become Assistance Dogs and join us for the first “DOGTOBER”!
Host your own “DOGTOBER” event and have fun while raising funds for a good cause.
You can host your “DOGTOBER” event just about anywhere – at home, work, your dog club or any community club. Invite your friends, family and colleagues to join you and ask them to donate for your personal puppy support. You do not need to have a dog to participate, everyone can join! Here are some ideas how your “DOGTOBER” event could look like:
Dog’s Breakfast: A breakfast, morning tea or brunch at home, work or a club. Have bone shaped cookies for sale.
Dog’s Bowl: Organise a great bowling event on the greens at your club
Dog Collar event: Decorate your own collar and wear it to a dinner, to work, to a cocktail party. Invite your friends along or get them to sponsor you wearing it out in public!
Hot Dog Day: Have a sausage sizzle and sell hot dogs to your friends.
Those are just some examples – have a look at our brochure to get some more ideas and of course you can get creative and invent your own “DOGTOBER” event!
“DOGTOBER” is a nationally run fundraising and awareness month. All raised funds will go directly to Assistance Dogs Australia and will be used to train our dogs to help people with a disability. A small amount of money can already make a big difference. With as little as $100 you can feed a puppy for a month, $1000 will buy a new Labrador or Golden Retriever puppy. Every amount raised makes a difference!
Take the next step and register as a “DOGTOBER” event host by returning the enclosed form. Once you have signed up we will send you our host kit which contains all the items you need to make your “DOGTOBER” event a success.
We hope that you will be able to register for “DOGTOBER” and support us in October 2009.
