Osteoathritis- new treatment for dogs
One of the most exciting new treatments to hit the Veterinary market is a treatment for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. It is from Regeneus Animal Health and the treatment is called AdiCell. Adicell uses Stem Cells, and other cells, from the dogs own body to heal diseased joints. The Therapy, AdiCell, is a one off, very safe and minimally invasive treatment that is completed in the one day.
AdiCell involves removing around 20 grams of fat from the dog’s abdomen, applying a purifying treatment (which isolates the cells) to that fat and then reinjecting those cells back into the dogs affected arthritic joints. The dog has to go under a general anaesthetic so prior to treatment there is a stringent testing process, which involves blood tests, numerous X-Rays, a physical examination, and even in some cases CT-Scans and Ultrasound.
The dog is kept in overnight and walks out the next day and in most cases the vets and owners see an improvement within 10 days. Improvements include a decrease in pain and inflammation and an increase in mobility. Vets have treated over 200 hundred dogs now, with significant improvement in over 90% of cases.
The treatment is by no means cheap costing several thousand dollars but offers a great alternative to invasive surgery such as hip replacement and also a life time of pain relief. Speak to your vet about whether your pet is elligible and for more information visit http://www.regeneus.com.au
